What you will learn in this section:
- What is an Audio Video Segment
- How to add a video clip to a segment
- What the red X on a playlist item means
- Renaming items in the Playlist tree
- Assigning the Segment’s frame rate
What is an Audio Video Segment?
Your audio, video and subtitle assets are added to your project as Audio/Video Segments. Each segment can contain one elementary video stream (2D or 3D), up to 32 audio tracks and up to 32 subtitle tracks. You can add up to 999 Audio/Video segments to your project.
Segments contain your actual video elementary streams. If you have audio and subtitles, they are associated with the video streams in the segment. You can think of your segments as a bin. You must add your elementary streams as segments in your project before you can author how they should playback on your disc.
Your segments are re-usable in your project, so you can add them to multiple playlists without taking up any extra space on the disc. No matter how many times you add a Segment to a Playlist in your project, it is only multiplexed once.
Adding the FBI Warning Segment:
The FBI Warning is a ten second clip with no audio that displays an FBI warning card. In the demo project, we want this to be the first video that is played when the disc starts.
- Display the Playlist tree by clicking the Playlist tab and expand the Segments folder. Every new project includes one empty Audio Video Segment called 2D Segment 1 by default.
- Expand the 2D Segment 1 node and the Primary Audio/Video node that is nested below it. You will notice a red X on the Video icon. When an item in the playlist tree is missing an asset you will see the red X displayed over the icon.
- Click the Video node to display the properties in the Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, click the ellipses button and use the dialog box to select the file FBIWarning.avc found in the DSAdemo.AV folder.
- Click on the 2D Segment 1 node in the Playlist tree to display the properties in the Control Panel. Rename the Segment by typing “FBI Warning” in the Name field and pressing Enter.
- The FBIWarning.avc clip is 29.97 fps, so you do not need to change the Frames Per Second setting. It is important that the Frames Per Second setting match the frame rate of your video or else you will experience sync issues with subtitles.
That’s all there is to it. You have now added a video-only segment.
