What is the First Play image?

The First Play is a PNG image that displays while your Blu-ray Disc player loads the disc into memory. It is mandatory that your disc contain a First Play when authoring with DSA.

What format should the First play image be?

The First Play image should be a PNG without transparency that is no larger than full frame 1920 x 1080 at 72 dpi. It is recommended that you use the First Play image as a loading screen. If the image is smaller than 1920×1080 it will be centered on the screen over a black background.

You must create your first play image using Adobe Photoshop or a similar graphics program before adding it to you DoStudio project.

Adding the First Play image:

  1. Display the Playlist tree by clicking the Playlist tab. You will notice a red X on the First Play node. When an item in the playlist is missing an asset you will see the red X displayed over the node.
  2. Click the First Play image node to display the properties in the Control Panel.
  3. In the Control Panel, click the ellipses button and use the dialog box to select the file 1stPlay.png found in the DSAdemo project folder.
  4. Set the duration to 3 seconds by entering the number “3″ in the text box. This sets the minimum duration you want the First Play image to display on screen.

If your disc takes longer than 3 seconds to load on a Blu-ray player then the first play image will remain on-screen until it is loaded. It is normal for discs to take between 10 and 30 seconds to load. Some players will be faster, others will be slower.
