Tutorial 2.A. - Create the FBI Warning Playlist
What you will learn in this section:
- What is a Playlist
- How to create a Playlist
What is a Playlist?
Playlists define how your video will play on your Blu-ray Disc, and how your video will interact with your menus. You add one or more Segments to a playlist (they are called Path Items once they are added to a Playlist), add chapters to the Path Items, control UOPS during playback, and add Actions. Most of your authoring in the Playlist Tree is directed to the Playlists.
Your Audio Video Segments must be added to Playlists if you want to play them on your disc. You can not play an Audio Video Segment directly.
You can add up to 999 Playlists to your project. You can add your Segments to different playlists as many times as you want. They are essentially virtual files that take up very little space on your Blu-ray Disc, so you can use them freely to create randomized playback, “Play All” features, and more.
Creating the FBI Warning Playlist:
- Right-click on the FBI Warning segment in the Playlist tree and select “Create Playlist from Segment” from the context menu. You will see a new Playlist called “Playlist – FBI Warning” in the tree.
- Select the “Playlist – FBI Warning” node in the tree to display the properties in the Control Panel. You will see the Segment in the Playlist’s timeline.
- Leave the other parameters in their default setting. In general, you will leave the “Bypass Lossless Audio” and “Interactive Audio Mixing” settings checked. Also, you will not need to edit the Playlist number unless you are programming special BD-J features with the Advanced Interactivity BDJO module. We’ll discuss the On End Play field in Tutorial 2.B.

Understanding the Playlist editable parameters:
Bypass Lossless Audio - The Bypass Lossless Audio flag gives priority to lossless audio tracks (DTS-MA, Dolby TrueHD, LPCM) if the Blu-ray player can play the lossless audio.
Interactive Audio Mixing - The Interactive Audio Mixing flag mixes the button sound effects with the segment’s primary and secondary DTS and/or Dolby audio tracks when you multiplex your disc. It is recommended that you leave this flag checked.
