Tutorial 2.D – Create a “Play All” Playlist

Tutorial 2.D – Create a “Play All” Playlist

What you will learn in this section:

  • How to add multiple segments to a Playlist
  • How to add segments to Playlists using drag-and-drop
  • How to create a seamless connection

To Create the “Play All” Playlist for the Bonus Videos:

The DoStudio Demo Project includes three short Bonus Videos with a menu option to “Play All”.  This tutorial sets up a “Play All” playlist that includes all three Bonus Videos.

  1. Right-Click the “Bonus Alaska” segment and select “Create PlayList from Segment”  You will now see a new Playlist in the tree.
  2. Select the new playlist in the tree to display the properties in the Control Panel.  You will see the Bonus Alaska segment in the timeline.
  3. Rename the Playlist to “Playlist – Play All” by editing the text in the “Name” field.
  4. Set the On End Play event to “Playlist – Menu Loop”.
  5. Right-Click the “Bonus Hawaii” segment and select “Add Segment to Playlist” and choose “Playlist – Play All”.  This adds the Bonus Hawaii segment to the end of the Bonus Hawaii segment in the playlist.
  6. You can also add segments to Playlists using drag and drop.  Click and drag the “Bonus Virginia” segment to the Playlist timeline, releasing it so it is positioned after the “Bonus Hawaii” segment.

You have now created a Playlist with three audio video segments.  You will notice that there is a red connector between the segments.  This indicates a non-seamless connection.  Segments are always added to playlists with non-seamless connections by default.  To change a connection from non-seamless to seamless, follow this last step:

  1. Simply click on the red connectors (non-seamless connection) to change them to green connectors (seamless connection).

Understanding Seamless and non-seamless connections:

When you add more than one Segment to a Playlist you can join them seamlessly so that the disc will play smoothly from one segment to the next without dropping to a black screen. To make a seamless connection, click the red connection indicator to toggle it to green.

Simply choosing to make a seamless connection does not guarantee that the connection will play without dropping to black. Whether your connection will in fact play as a seamless connection depends upon a number of factors.

Here are the requirements for a Seamless connection:

  • Segment audio must be exactly the same duration as the video
  • The connecting segments must have the same frame rate
  • The bitrate of the connecting video segments must be within 5mb/s of each other at the time of the connection

Since the Bonus Virginia clips is 24fps but the Bonus Alaska and Bonus Hawaii clips are 29.97fps, the connection between Bonus Hawaii and Bonus Virginia will not be seamless, even though we have changed the connector from red to green.

Congratulations!  You have created all of the Playlists required for the demo project. Please proceed to Tutorial #3: Setting up your Blu-ray Disc Title.
