Introducing BD Touch
NetBlender's BD Touch technology enhances the capabilities of BD Live by enabling two-way communication with Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch. BD Touch uses the BD Live network connection built into Blu-ray players and the WiFi connection on the iPhone to connect the devices.
The sophisticated UI of the iPhone enables unprecedented user interaction when compared to any other handheld device. BD Touch applications can take advantage of the iPhone's geo location features, 3D sensors and QWERTY keyboard. Video, audio, text, and player commands can be transferred via the connection.
Endless Possibilities
Some implementations of BD Touch will include:
- Pushing digital copies of movies to an iPhone from the Blu-ray disc menu.
- Automatically cataloguing a viewer’s Blu-ray disc collection and providing movie suggestions
- Updating and managing a viewer’s rental queue
- Displaying trivia and extra information about a movie in sync with the movie's playback
- Turning existing Blu-ray discs into games that use the iPhone as the game controller
- Viewing fan-created content in sync with the disc

NetBlender has created two BD Touch SDK programs for developers to create iPhone applications with BD Touch features. The BD Touch SDKs provide a complete specification for sending and receiving data between a BD Touch enabled Blu-Ray disc and an iPhone/iPod Touch. Blu-ray Disc authorers can add BD Touch features to their discs with point-and-click ease using DoStudio BD Authoring Edition. Does BD Touch work with all Blu-Ray Players?
BD Touch will work with all BD Live compatible players. See our wikipaper for the compatible players.
Does BD touch turn the iPhone into a remote control for your Blu-ray player?
That is one potential application of the technology, but BD Touch can take advantage of all of the iPhone's interactive capabilties such as geo-location, mapping, search and more.
Do my movies need to already have BD Touch on the disc?
Yes BD Touch will work with future movies that are authored with BD touch features.
If I want to author my next movie with BD Touch features do I have to get the SDK?
Not necessarily. You can use DoStudio’s built in BD Touch features without any programming. Check out DoStudio here.
Will BD Touch work outside of the US?
Yes BD Touch works terrifically over a WiFi network no matter which country you are in.
As an Apple developer do I need to buy DoStudio?
